Content Authoring Interfaces
There are two primary ways to create content in TeamSite:
- FormsPublisher allows the user to add content to a browser-based form. This content is combined with a stylesheet to generate a static rendition of a page. FormsPublisher is used for well structured pages.
- SitePublisher allows the user to create pages using a browser-based WYSIWYG editor. Page components can be added to a page and dragged into place without requiring any web development. Unlike FormsPublisher, SitePublisher allows content edits to make content edits directly on a page, allowing the user to see how the content changes affect the page in real time. SitePublisher is often used for microsites and landing pages where more creative flexibility is needed by the user.
Backingstore
TeamSite stores data content in XML-files in TeamSite backingstore. This backing store is a proprietary filesystem. There are no mechanisms for data constraints and transaction management like in databases. Storage in databases is only possible as mirroring of the backingstore data. This option is not a standard product feature.
Workflow
Workflow manages the process of publishing content from the TeamSite content management environment to the production webservers. Workflow can incorporate one or more approval steps before content is published. TeamSite comes with a visual workflow designer that allows users to design workflow processes using a drag+drop tool.
Versioning
TeamSite versions content at the file and site level. Each change to a file is versioned and users can rollback to any prior version. In addition, TeamSite versions the entire site each time new content is published. This allows a user to rollback to any previous site version.
Security and Roles
TeamSite allows users to define specific content management roles and then assign specific permissions to each role. For example, an "Editor" role might be able to approve or reject content in a workflow but not add new content. User authentication and access is controlled by standard user databases including Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP.
